State Inspections

Kwik Kar Southlake is a certified TX state inspection center performing approximately 1,000 inspections/month.  The most common inspection questions can be found below:

Q: How long does a state inspection typically take?

A: The inspection itself is quick: 10-15 minutes per vehicle.  Although Kwik Kar Southlake has multiple inspectors and inspection stations, things can take longer if there are cars ahead of you.

Q: What docs do I need for my inspection?
A: Kwik Kar Southlake cannot legally inspect your vehicle without a current copy of your auto insurance.  The copy can be paper or electronic.  You can contact your insurance provider or agent which should be able to email you a copy of your auto insurance. Additionally, many insurance companies have a mobile app containing a copy of your insurance ID card.

Q: I heard inspections went away in 2025. Is that true?
A: Yes and No.  Safety inspections are now a thing of the past, but emissions inspections continue as a requirement for registration renewals.  Emissions inspections apply to both passenger and commercial vehicles.  The costs are $ 18.50 and $ 40.00, respectively.

Q: What can a vehicle be failed for during a safety inspection?
A: Mandatory safety inspections were eliminated on 12/31/2024.
